Competition Report
June & July 2015
Members of RRAC have again been busy representing the club at a total of 19 competitions in the past 2 months.
Surrey Junior – This was a new event organised as the Surrey Champs this year has been taken over by the National Series. There were 70 taking part and a great atmosphere. Joschka took 1st place and overall Longbow champion, Kyla-Mae, Eleanor & Oliver took 2nd, with Kyla-Mae & Eleanor taking 2nd team place.
One busy weekend saw Kyla-Mae at the Inter-Counties friendly, John C, John S & Sabina at The Masters and five members at Spelthorne with Sarah taking gold, Barbara L & Marshall winning bronze medals and Marshall & John M taking the longbow team silver.
Chessington Junior Team – we entered one team of 5 juniors who took 2nd place.
Ten members took part at Rivernook, competition was tough and no medals this time. At the same time, seven were at Windsor @ Windsor with Kyla-Mae taking gold.
Guildford Junior Acorn – 6 took part, with golds for Lucas & Sarah B and silver for Eleanor.
Sheila Brown shoot at Mole Valley – 3 took part, golds for Kyla-Mae & Joschka, silver for Marshall, bronze handicap medal for Kyla-Mae and Rose Awards for Marshall & Joschka.
Barbara L was selected to form part of the Surrey team at the National inter-counties team competition at Lillieshall which included a team Head-to-head. Sadly Surrey finished well down the rankings but at least we were able to field a team this year.
The London Youth games included 2 teams of members from RRAC with Richmond coming 3rd & gold for Eleanor, silver for Ella & bronze for Lara.
The following day Eleanor went up to Lillieshall to compete in the National Junior championships coming a respectable 4th place.
Barbara L & Barbara W were invited to participate in a Prize day shoot hosted by the Royal Toxophilite Society and sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Bowyers. A beautiful day, in lovely surroundings, where the shooting was fitted in around morning coffee, sherry, lunch and afternoon tea.
Surrey weekend included the 3rd & 4th legs of the National Series and attracted 300 archers (with a waiting list) on 75 targets for both days including many of the top & Olympic archers. This was the biggest tournament held in the UK in a decade. The first hurdle was actually getting a place which was achieved by Barbara L, Barbara W, Nick and for the Sunday only Sabina & Andrew. With a very strong field and windy weather, unsurprisingly RRAC recurves were fairly low down on the ranking. Nick had the dubious honour of competing against Olympian, and ultimate winner Larry Godfrey in his head-to-head match. In the Surrey championships Sabina came away with the gold and the longbow team of Sabina & Andrew won an impressive trophy. Some of our members (David & Sarah Barnes & Sarah Gibbs) volunteers to assist as field crew which was greatly appreciated.
Guildford Longbow shoot was attended by 3 members with a gold for Sabina and team gold for Sabina, Mark & Andrew
Five members took part in Sussex County Champs where Eleanor came away with 2 golds and silver for Barbara W.
The final weekend of July saw Nick at Andoba and Barbara W at Aquarius where she won a bronze on the Saturday. Then on a very wet Sunday at Crowthorne Eleanor & Sarah came away with Golds. Barbara J, Kyla-Mae & Barbara L all came in second place in their class but no medals due to low numbers.
There are a few more competitions before the end of the season so if you’ve not taken the plunge, this might be your opportunity before we move indoors.
