A Report from our Tournament Secretary Barbara Littlechild.

Royal Richmond seniors have been evident at various away shoots recently

The Southern Counties Archery Meeting (SCAM) – 13th – 16th May
SCAM is certainly different from most competitions! It runs over 4 days midweek. The first day is a longbow competition and Royal Richmond were represented by a brace of Alans. The second & third days are a double York / Hereford round with six of RRAC competing and the final day is a handicap National round with John C as our sole representative.
The weather was unusually hot and calm, quite a change from last years conditions. It is a very social occasional with many of the same faces returning year after year. One of the traditions is that mid morning and mid afternoon, each target are given a token to take to the pavilion to collect a tea tray with china cups & saucers, little pots of tea, coffee & sugar, milk, biscuits & a flask of hot water! quite civilised!! The paperwork is all quaintly sent out by post and almost a month later we still haven’t seen the results. But we do know that Sarah & Sabina won medals (badges) and Sabina achieved her 2nd & 3rd Master Bowman scores of the season.

Middlesex County Championships – 25th – 26th Mar
Sunday was a York / Hereford / Bristol round shot in very blustery conditions which was challenging. The field is divided in two by a slope with the York and half the Hereford rounds on the top level and the remainder on the lower field. Seven members of RRAC took part. Barbara W gained a 4th place and Barbara L a silver for the visitors ladies recurves.
Bank Holiday Monday was unsurprisingly VERY wet! Seven members (not necessarily the same 7 as the day before) braved the elements for a Fita 1440 round. Shooting 3 arrow ends for the two shorter distances made the afternoon very long but at the end of the day Barbara W had achieved a Fita Star, Barbara L a white English Cross, Sarah a gold spoon, Sabina a silver spoon and Katie & Sabina were presented with a very handsome new Longbow trophy (pictured).

Spelthorne – 1st June
The following weekend four members went to Spelthorne for a York / Hereford round. It was an uncommonly warm & calm day enjoyed in good company. Barbara w shot a nice 6 gold end and Sabina took second place in the longbow.

Windsor @ Windsor – 8th June
Windsor is a nice relaxed shoot, not record status and at a shorter distance than most of the major competitions. It is set in lovely surroundings in Home Park with the castle in the background. The weather was sunny & hot but with a slightly tricky swirly breeze. A good day for Royal Richmond, out of seven participating we achieved six personal bests (PB’s), a couple of club records, a gold for Sarah, Bronze for Barbara L and took second place for the recurve team of Justin, Nick, Barbara L & Barbara W.

Meanwhile, Katie, Sabina, John Stubbs & John Cavanagh were at Lillieshall for the Masters (invitation only for those who have gained their Master Bowman classification – so definitely the elite). John achieved two World Para records and Sabina won the head to head and came second overall for the Ladies Longbow.
