Victorian Shoot & Beginners’ ‘Mixer’ Fun Shoot
Great weather for archery this weekend, and we made the most of it! Saturday saw the annual Victorian Longbow Shoot, with a really fine turnout, both in numbers and in costume!
It was particularly good to be able to welcome a few longbow archers from other clubs, who also entered into the spirit of the event by wearing some fine looking Victorian garb – we were especially taken by Tom Firth’s natty plaid plus-fours!
Fantastic food, and plenty of it was a large part of the attraction of the day, and particular thanks to Barbara and Laura for their work behind the scenes to make that aspect of the day so special for everyone.
Marshall’s Mum came to watch, and we had some distinguished visitors from the cast of Ronin – the film on which Marshall has been working over the past few months.
Sunday was another fine day weatherwise, and a morning of Nationals gave way to a fun shoot in the afternoon, which gave some of the folk who have just completed their beginners’ courses a chance to meet and mix with the club’s members. More food on hand, (thanks to all who brought something) and a VERY welcome ice-cream courtesy of Mark Swaddle, who made a run to the local Sainsbury’s to buy what appears to have been their entire stock.

Juniors Show The Way
As we enter June, and the shooting diary fills up our junior section continues to shine! Jesse Zeidaks, Asija Zeidaks and Matt Savage in particular continue to improve under the guidance of Tom Firth and regularly bring home hardware from shoots around the South East. Asija has posted some great results. At one recent shoot she took gold in her age group, shot the best junior score overall (taking in all age groups up to under-18), gained gold in the team event (which the team won by over 200 points) AND shot a six-gold end! Pretty much a clean sweep for Asija!
On the subject of six-gold ends, congratulations go to Matt Savage, who shot just that at Spelthorne on Sunday 5th. Well done Matt, and indeed all our junior representatives, who really are showing the senior club how it should be done!
A newsletter should arrive in your mailbox any time now to advise you of a change to the schedule for Sunday 12th June. The Eric Harvey Trophy has been postponed to allow those members booked to shoot at Windsor on Sunday to take part. Instead there will be a Western round with shooting commencing at 12.00. Get there early to sort out your gear and help with the field.
